New Psychology Of... podcast episode looks at what makes a psychopath

The latest episode in the Psychology Of... series on Spotify sees regular host Dr Clea Wright joined by special guest Dr Emma Kavanagh, a psychologist and writer who this month has had her new book published, titled The Psychopath Effect: The Mind-altering Power of the Psychopaths Among Us.

Within the 40-minute episode – available for the first time as a video podcast as well as audio – Clea and Emma discuss the personality traits which can identify a psychopath and how to look for them, whether someone can learn to be a psychopath, and how to live or work with a suspected psychopath.

Emma also explains the findings of her research from speaking with children of psychopaths, and how they became hypervigilant in recognising subtle signs of incoming trouble in their parent. The podcast also explains how some psychopaths take advantage of others as they seek positions of power.

Clea said: “We have taken a slightly new format with our new podcast episode, and hope listeners will enjoy hearing from our guest Emma as much as I did.

“As well as our crime mini-series, we will have a number of other topics to discuss in the upcoming months, including our analysis on the next Celebrity Traitors series later this year.”

The Psychology team will be hosting a Traitors-based event at Chester’s Picturehouse in July as part of this year’s Festival of Ideas.
