What does your job involve day-to-day?

As an English Lead and primary school teacher, my role is incredibly varied. Day-to-day, I plan and deliver engaging lessons, assess progress and create learning experiences that inspire curiosity and a love of learning. Alongside teaching my own class, I lead English initiatives, support curriculum development and work collaboratively with colleagues to enhance teaching and learning across the school. Having taught in both Kuwait and Dubai, one of the most rewarding aspects of my career has been working with children from all over the world and learning from the diverse cultures, perspectives and beliefs they bring to the classroom. These experiences have broadened my own understanding of the world and shaped me both professionally and personally. A large part of my role is helping children develop academically, socially and emotionally, ensuring they feel confident, challenged and valued.

How did your degree help prepare you for the role?

My Religious Studies degree developed many of the skills that I use every day as an educator. It encouraged critical thinking, effective communication and the ability to consider different perspectives. I genuinely loved studying Religious Studies and look back on my time at Chester as some of the best years of my life. Choosing a degree in a subject I was truly passionate about sparked a lifelong interest in people, cultures and beliefs. My time at university was incredibly rewarding, culminating in being awarded the University's Valedictorian Award. That curiosity has stayed with me throughout my career, particularly while teaching in international schools and travelling around the world. It helped me become a more reflective and open-minded educator.

What do you enjoy most about your current job?

The relationships I build with children are undoubtedly the most rewarding part of my job. It is a privilege to watch pupils grow in confidence, develop new skills and discover interests they may never have known they had. I particularly enjoy helping children develop a love of reading and writing and seeing the pride they feel when they achieve something they once thought was beyond them. I also love working in international schools, where every classroom is
enriched by different cultures, experiences and perspectives. Knowing that I can play a small part in shaping a child's future makes every day worthwhile.

What was the most important thing you learned during your time in TRS?

One of the most important lessons I learned was the value of curiosity and open-mindedness. Religious Studies encouraged me to question, explore different viewpoints and think critically about the world around me. It taught me that there is always something new to learn from other people and cultures. Those lessons have stayed with me throughout my career and continue to shape my teaching today. Education is about much more than knowledge; it is about helping young people develop empathy, understanding and the confidence to think for themselves.

Tell us about your plans for the future.

After eight years in education and teaching in outstanding international British schools across Kuwait and Dubai, I am preparing for an exciting new chapter in my career. This summer, I will be transitioning from full-time classroom teaching to focus on growing my private tutoring and educational consultancy business. I am passionate about supporting children through personalised learning and helping families navigate educational pathways with confidence. Looking ahead, I hope to build a business that has a meaningful impact on children's learning while continuing to contribute to the education sector through literacy, curriculum development and educational research. Although my role is changing, my passion for helping young people learn and thrive remains at the heart of everything I do.
