Biography
HCPC registered Senior Lecturer/Practitioner in Biomedical Science, with over twenty years’ experience as a Biomedical Scientist in NHS Medical Microbiology Laboratories. BSc Biomedical Science course leader. Active fellow of the Institute for Biomedical Science (IBMS) and committee membership of the North Staffordshire IBMS branch.
Teaching and Supervision
Keen to explore alternative means of undergraduate Biomedical Science students acquiring clinical experience, e.g., providing clinical simulations in academia in the absence of clinical placements in the NHS. Passionate about how apprenticeship degrees can develop career opportunities for students.
Research and Knowledge Exchange
Mechanisms of antimicrobial resistance in both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, how this can be overcome and their epidemiology/infection control in the hospital setting. Pathogenesis and molecular epidemiology of gastrointestinal bacterial pathogens, particularly Clostridioides difficile. Peer reviewer for Anaerobe journal.
