Dr Marta Bell

Biography
Having previously held successful academic positions in both the UK (Leeds, Lancaster and Liverpool Universities) and Italy (Politecnico di Milano) for over twenty years, Dr Marta Bell is a Senior Lecturer in Logistics and Supply Chain Management at Chester Business School, where she is the Course Leader for the MSc programme in Logistics and Supply Chain Management. As a teacher, Marta focusses on inspiring by example and the interconnection between audio-visual and interactive media presentations and student learning. With outstanding feedback from three UK Universities, Marta is looking to develop the art of teaching way beyond just professional-standard slides and other media to ensure inspirational international student engagement media and strategic focus. Industrial engagement and business partnerships are central to Marta's teaching, research and grant-fund bids. She has worked collaboratively with blue chip companies such as Scapa, large organisations such as David Luke, English Fine Cottons, the Paper Cup Company and many prominent SMEs in the UK and Italy. Her 3 and 4* journal articles have been published in high-ranking publications such as the International Journal of Operations and Production Management, Supply Chain Management: an International Journal, the International Journal of Production Economics and the International Journal of Physical distribution and Logistics Management. Marta has also been succesful in previous grant fund bids, research projects for the British Academy, as well as a number of EU funded projects.
Teaching and Supervision
Having taught Operations, Logistics and Supply Chain Management modules at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels for the past twenty years, including Executive MBA courses, MSc Management, MSc Operations, Logistics and Supply Chains, Marta is student-centred and driven to improving teaching practices in the HE sector via the use of digital learning opportunities for both home-based and international students. As a teacher, Marta focusses on inspiring by example and the contemporary interconnections between audio-visual and other interactive media and student learning. With outstanding student feedback, she continues to develop the art of teaching way beyond professional-quality slides and other digital media to ensure true student engagement, whatever the start-point, language or cultural heritage. Marta has successfully supervised six previous international PhD research projects at both Lancaster and Leeds Universities, alongside numerous publications with her PhD students. Many of those students have moved on to become successful lecturers and business leaders. Her student feedback and results have been recognised as outstanding at Leeds, Liverpool and Lancaster Universities for over 20 years. Her teaching has been responsible for hundreds of previously successful Masters, Undergraduate and MBA students and the next generation of world business leaders and global University lecturers.
Research and Knowledge Exchange
Marta's current research interests are within socially responsible practices along the supply chain, with a specific focus on emerging economies and global supply chain management, including offshoring and reshoring decision-making and resilient supply chains. She is particularly interested in supervising PhD students in the following areas: sustainable supply chain management practices, circular economy supply chains within the fashion sector, fashion waste recycling, social sustainability performance and reshoring and local sourcing.
